Buyer's guide

Is a throttle controller safe for your engine and warranty?

A throttle controller doesn't touch the engine or its software. It sits between the accelerator pedal and its plug, so the engine computer stays in charge of everything it controlled before.

The short answer

The short answer

A plug-in throttle controller only changes how quickly the pedal signal reaches the engine computer. All of the engine's own limits, including rev limits, fuelling, temperature protection and traction control, stay exactly as the manufacturer set them. Because nothing is cut or reprogrammed, unplugging it returns the car to stock.

Things to know

  • Use Normal mode, or unplug it, before a dealer service if you'd rather not discuss it.
  • In very aggressive modes, be gentle on wet or loose roads until you know the feel.
  • Buy the connector for your exact model, so the plug fits properly.

Why owners trust it

  • Nothing in the engine is changed.
  • It unplugs in seconds with no trace.
  • Serial-tracked, with five years of warranty cover.
  • Fitted by a trained partner if you'd rather not do it yourself.
Background

About your car's warranty

A car warranty covers faults in the parts the manufacturer supplied. A dealer may refuse a claim if they believe an add-on caused the problem, which is why a device that changes nothing in the engine and can be removed in seconds is the low-risk option. If you're unsure, ask your dealer, or unplug the controller before a service visit.

I was a bit sceptical initially, as I had doubts over check engine lights and errors… The installation was simple and took hardly 10 minutes, and after a test drive it simply changed the nature of acceleration in the car and eliminated the low end lag.

Questions

Questions buyers ask

Can a throttle controller damage my engine?

It doesn't change anything inside the engine. The engine computer still decides how much fuel, boost and timing to use, and all its protections stay on.

Will it void my car's warranty?

It doesn't modify the engine or its software, and it unplugs without a trace. A dealer can only reject a claim for a fault they can link to the device. If in doubt, unplug it before a service.

Is it safe on automatic cars?

Yes. The gearbox sees a normal pedal request and shifts as it is designed to.

Will it set off a check engine light?

Fitted with the correct connector for your car, it shouldn't. Contact us or your fitting partner if you see a warning.
